  "
Dominoes", Our Black & White Golden
If you really want to know how accepting and
gentle a Golden Retriever is, this story should convince you.
In June 2000 of last year, we were on our way
into the house, we had been out to the shop. It was very late in the evening, thus very
dark. As usual, the Golden's followed us to the house.
In front of our house we had planted some bushes on both sides of the porch. To reassure
us that the Golden's wouldn't chew them up or get in them and lay down, we had ran
electric fence wire around them. That worked great, so great in fact that we had the
electric fence turned off but the Golden's didn't know that, and just assumed it was on,
so they were not getting close to it.
After we were in the house for a while, we heard some commotion outside. I turned the
porch light on, and noticed the Golden's were staring into the area where the bushes
were.Well, that's not so unusual, I figured they had seen a frog, or mole. Then I heard a
faint meow, or thought I did. I went outside to see if I could hear it again, and was
surprised to find a little bitty kitten, sitting in the bush area. It wasn't very big, and
was probably barely weaned. Well, I had my husband come outside. We finally caught him and
brought him inside. He was very wild, we put him in our pantry room, and looked him over.
First thing we did was give him a good Flea shampoo bath, he was covered. Then we took him
out to the shop and locked him in our office.
We checked on him regularly, but he was very unsociable, and hid everytime we came around.
He hissed alot, and even tried biting. This went on for a couple of weeks. Little by
little , he came around. Finally we decided to let him outside.
The Golden's were very curious, and followed him everywhere.
It didn't take long after that, his personality did a complete U-Turn. The Golden's loved
playing with him, and they became very good buddies, especially Dominoes and Renee, she
became his adopted mommy.
As fall closed in and the air became colder, Dominoes, found out real fast how soft and
cuddly and warm, the Golden's were.
He slept, ate and drank with them.
We had puppies that Fall/Winter, and Dominoes would walk along the railing of the kennel.
As the puppies got older and started to play, they were fascinated with Dominoes, and he
loved them. He would hop down in the area with them and play, and even sleep. As they got
bigger, it was really funny to watch, just how tolerant and gentle, Dominoes was with
these puppies. He would have two or three of them playfully attack him at once, and just
maul him. After he had enough he would jump back up on the rail for a minute or two and
jump back down for more. He also used to stick his paw under the door to the kennel room
if he wasn't inside it, enticing the puppies to just try and get him.
Our Golden's raised him, and now he is just a lovable happy ball of black and white fur
who thinks that he's a Golden too.
I'ts funny how he managed to just show up in the yard, this little bitty kitten, after all
we had 5 big Goldens at that time, and we have never had a cat or even another dog show up
in our yard.
If you have already read the Story about Oscar, you will know that he was our cat for
about 15 years and that we had just had him put to sleep because of sickness. Dominoes,
showed up out of nowhere, about a week and a half, before Oscar died.
Call it what you want, but we call it more than a coincidence, we call it a loving miracle
from the very hands of our creator...... We call it a very loving gift from God.

Yes, Dominoes was someone's throw
away , left all alone out in the country, dumped like a piece of trash, so tiny he could
fit in a coffee cup....
But today , Dominoes is a wonderful , loving cat, just ask the Golden's.....They think
he's the greatest.. and he loves his home and his Golden family......
